Interesting fact - the concept of a portable computer (PDA) was born and took shape much later than had been invented the first portable game consoles. Already in the late 70's came the first device that could get it, play, stop and put back in his pocket. Over the past twenty-five years "younger brothers" desktop gaming platforms - PC, Mac and consoles - have done their way, with its ups and downs. But even today, when few people are surprised by palm, and when every cell phone manufacturer packed two or three games (not to mention the content which is available for download on the network), handheld game consoles remain afloat.

The first portable gaming devices belong to the second generation in the general history of gaming consoles. Then it was the primitive in terms of today device with a monochrome screen and not too impressive computing power. "The collapse in 1983" led to a redistribution of forces in the market of gaming devices, has forced producers to create new products and finding new marketing niches. Second in the history of consoles has ended. The period from the mid 80's and early new century belongs to the third, fourth and fifth generations. A successful concept and the right marketing led to the wide popularity of Game Boy, which essentially became the first "manual" game console in the usual sense. Devices of this time were "incarcerated" under one function - they could only play. Progress was in the direction of increasing computing power (32-bit and 64-bit processors and a significant increase in the amount of memory), the screens become larger, brighter and more colorful, have been worked out the basic elements of governance.

By the beginning of the century "younger brothers» PC, Mac and game consoles have become firmly on its feet. But technological advances that led to the emergence of handhelds for Palm OS, Windows Mobile, Symbian, significant expansion of the functional mobile phones has led to the qualitative evolution of the "hand" of consoles. Manufacturers realized that the possibility of PDAs and phones to meet the "entertainment features" a little inferior than their products. This resulted in a class of devices, which could not only play, but listen to music, watch movies, take pictures and view images. Availability of modules that provide network connectivity and memory expansion has become the de facto standard. Seventh generation with such a leader as a PSP only strengthen this trend.
